Since 1850, this building was renowned as a staging point of merchants and, subsequently, used for overnight stays and rest by the “Ratinhos” [Mice] (seasonal rural labourers coming from the Beiras who did the manual wheat harvesting in Alentejo) and who here in Barca d’Amieira had an entrance point into the Alentejo.
“Jans Country House & Nature” at Herdade das Jans, revives the tradition of accommodation and a resting place in a natural environment in communion with nature, offering the merging of tradition, culture, and contemporary and ecological design.
The individual accommodation units with private deck exude a local, authentic and relaxed lifestyle, in a property that assures intimacy and space to explore this preserved part of Northern Alentejo.
